GE Ultrasound Feature

Auto Abdominal Color

AI & Automation

Auto Abdominal Color uses AI algorithms to detect the organ or vascular structure in the field of view and automatically adjusts color Doppler parameters for optimal flow visualization. The system modifies gain, wall filter, velocity scale, and color box position in real time as the probe moves between anatomical regions. This eliminates the constant manual parameter adjustments that abdominal Doppler exams typically require, particularly when transitioning between organs with different flow characteristics such as the liver, kidneys, and mesentery.

Auto Abdominal Color - GE ultrasound feature

Key Benefits

Why Auto Abdominal Color matters

01

Diagnostic-quality Doppler without manual tuning

The AI adjusts gain, wall filter, and velocity scale for each organ automatically. Sonographers get properly optimized color flow images whether scanning the hepatic veins, renal arteries, or mesenteric vessels, without stopping to change parameters between structures.

02

Faster abdominal Doppler exams

Eliminating manual parameter changes between organs removes one of the most time-consuming aspects of abdominal Doppler imaging. The continuous optimization keeps the exam flowing without the start-stop pattern of manual adjustment.

03

Consistent color flow imaging across operators

AI-driven parameter selection removes the operator-dependent variability in Doppler settings. Less experienced sonographers produce the same quality color flow images as veterans, improving diagnostic consistency in labs with mixed experience levels.

04

Manual override preserved for complex cases

The system applies optimal default settings automatically but does not lock out manual control. For patients with unusual anatomy or pathology that requires custom Doppler settings, clinicians can override the AI and fine-tune parameters as needed.

About Auto Abdominal Color

Color Doppler imaging in abdominal exams requires different parameter settings for each organ. The liver's hepatic veins need different velocity scales than the renal arteries, and the portal vein requires different wall filter settings than the aorta. Traditionally, sonographers manually adjust these parameters every time they move to a different structure, which interrupts scanning flow and requires technical expertise to optimize. Auto Abdominal Color solves this by using AI to recognize what anatomy is currently in the field of view and applying the appropriate Doppler settings automatically. When the sonographer moves from the right kidney to the liver, the system detects the transition and adjusts velocity scale, gain, and wall filter accordingly. This real-time optimization produces consistently diagnostic-quality color flow images without the operator needing to pause and manually tune parameters. The feature is particularly valuable for sonographers who perform high-volume abdominal exams and for less experienced operators who may not yet have the technical knowledge to optimize Doppler settings for every anatomical region. The system still allows manual override for cases where custom settings are needed.
