GE Ultrasound Feature
EMR Connectivity
WorkflowEMR Connectivity on GE ultrasound systems transfers images, patient demographics, measurements, and structured reports directly to Electronic Medical Record and PACS systems. Using HL7 and DICOM communication standards, the ultrasound sends exam data to the hospital information system without manual re-entry. Patient worklists can be pulled from the EMR to pre-populate the ultrasound with scheduled exam details, and completed studies are pushed back automatically. This bidirectional data flow eliminates transcription errors, reduces documentation time, and keeps patient records current across departments.

Key Benefits
Why EMR Connectivity matters
Eliminate manual data entry between ultrasound and EMR
Patient demographics pull from the EMR worklist automatically, and completed exam data pushes back without re-entry. This removes the repetitive typing that slows down every exam and introduces transcription risk.
Reduce transcription errors in patient records
Manual data entry is the leading source of errors in medical records. Automated transfer of patient IDs, measurements, and reports removes the human transcription step where mistakes occur most often.
Interoperability across multi-vendor environments
HL7 and DICOM are vendor-neutral standards. GE ultrasound systems with EMR Connectivity work with Epic, Cerner, Meditech, and other major EMR platforms, and connect to PACS systems regardless of vendor.
Speed up billing and compliance documentation
Structured reports sent directly to the EMR contain the clinical data needed for coding and billing. Faster, more complete documentation means shorter revenue cycles and fewer rejected claims due to missing information.
About EMR Connectivity
EMR Connectivity uses two established healthcare data standards to move information between the ultrasound and the facility's electronic systems. DICOM handles the transfer of ultrasound images and structured reports to PACS archives and reading stations. HL7 manages the exchange of patient demographics, scheduling data, and exam orders between the ultrasound and the EMR. When a clinician starts an exam, they can pull the patient's demographic data and exam order directly from the EMR worklist rather than typing it manually. After the exam, images and measurements are sent to PACS automatically, and a structured report can be pushed to the patient's EMR record. This integration is standard across GE's Voluson line and available on other GE platforms. For practices and hospitals that rely on electronic records for care coordination, billing, and compliance, EMR Connectivity removes the manual bridge between the ultrasound room and the rest of the clinical workflow.
