GE Ultrasound Feature
Lyric Architecture
Imaging TechnologyLyric Architecture is GE's system-level imaging platform built into the Voluson Expert 22. It integrates signal processing hardware with software-based beamforming and image reconstruction to deliver higher spatial resolution, improved contrast resolution, and reduced speckle noise across all imaging modes. For OB/GYN clinicians scanning patients with high BMI or complex fetal positioning, Lyric Architecture maintains image quality where older platforms may struggle. The architecture underpins the Voluson Expert 22's performance in both 2D grayscale imaging and 3D/4D volume rendering.

Key Benefits
Why Lyric Architecture matters
Higher spatial and contrast resolution in 2D
Lyric Architecture's increased channel density and wider bandwidth processing produce finer detail in grayscale imaging. Small structures like fetal cardiac valves and early pregnancy anatomy are resolved with greater clarity compared to previous Voluson platforms.
Faster 4D frame rates for real-time fetal imaging
Volume data processing happens faster on Lyric Architecture, enabling higher frame rates during live 4D scanning. Fetal movements, facial expressions, and cardiac motion render more smoothly, improving both diagnostic assessment and the patient viewing experience.
Better penetration in high-BMI patients
The improved signal-to-noise ratio at the architecture level means clearer images at depth. OB/GYN practices scanning patients with elevated BMI experience fewer non-diagnostic exams and less need for repeat appointments.
Foundation for all Voluson Expert 22 features
SonoCNS, SonoRender Start, HDlive, and every other software feature on the Voluson Expert 22 run on top of Lyric Architecture. Better signal quality at the platform level means every feature processes cleaner data and produces more accurate results.
About Lyric Architecture
Lyric Architecture is GE's latest system-level design for the Voluson Expert line. Rather than a single algorithm or feature, it is the foundational processing platform that handles every stage of the ultrasound signal chain: transmit pulse generation, echo reception, beamforming, signal processing, and image rendering. The architecture uses increased channel density and wider bandwidth processing to extract more information from each transmitted pulse. This translates to finer axial and lateral resolution in 2D imaging, better tissue-to-fluid contrast for identifying small structures, and reduced speckle artifact that can obscure detail. In 3D/4D modes, Lyric Architecture processes volume data faster, enabling higher frame rates during live 4D scanning. This is especially noticeable during fetal face imaging and cardiac motion studies where temporal resolution matters. The platform also improves the performance of features that run on top of it, including SonoCNS, SonoRender Start, and HDlive rendering. Because signal quality is better at the foundational level, every downstream feature benefits from cleaner input data. For practices imaging patients with challenging body habitus, the improved penetration and signal-to-noise ratio means fewer non-diagnostic exams and less need for repeat scanning.
