GE Ultrasound Feature
Whizz Follicle
OB/GYNWhizz Follicle is part of GE's Whizz automation suite on the Versana platform. It uses AI algorithms to scan the ovarian region during transvaginal ultrasound, identify individual follicles, and measure their size and volume in real time. Measurement data populates directly into the patient report, eliminating manual caliper placement and data entry. For general imaging practices that also serve fertility patients, Whizz Follicle brings specialist-grade follicle monitoring to a multi-specialty ultrasound system.

Key Benefits
Why Whizz Follicle matters
Real-time follicle detection without manual calipers
The AI identifies and measures follicles as the sonographer scans the ovary. No individual caliper placements are needed, which reduces per-ovary measurement time from minutes to seconds and eliminates a common source of repetitive strain.
Automated report population saves documentation time
Follicle measurements flow directly into the exam report without manual data entry. In practices performing 20+ fertility monitoring scans per day, the documentation time savings alone can recover a significant portion of the schedule.
Reproducible measurements across serial monitoring scans
AI-driven measurement removes the variability that occurs when different operators measure the same follicles on consecutive days. Physicians get consistent growth data that accurately reflects follicular development rather than operator differences.
Fertility monitoring on a multi-specialty platform
Practices that perform occasional fertility work alongside general imaging do not need a separate dedicated OB/GYN system. Whizz Follicle brings accurate follicle tracking to the Versana platform, reducing equipment costs for mixed-specialty clinics.
About Whizz Follicle
Whizz Follicle applies the same AI-driven approach to follicle detection that GE offers on its dedicated women's health platforms, adapted for the Versana multi-specialty environment. During a transvaginal scan, the algorithm identifies follicular structures within the ovary, differentiates them from cysts and corpus luteum, and calculates diameter and volume measurements. These measurements auto-populate into the structured report template, removing the manual step of measuring each follicle individually and typing results. The tool is particularly useful in practices that perform both general imaging and fertility monitoring. Rather than requiring a dedicated Voluson system for follicle tracking, clinicians can perform accurate follicle assessments on their existing Versana equipment. The automated measurement approach reduces inter-operator variability, which is important when different sonographers monitor the same patient across multiple cycle days. Follicle size thresholds can trigger visual alerts to help clinicians identify follicles approaching ovulation criteria.
