GE M5Sc-D
The M5Sc-D is GE's XDclear matrix phased array for adult echocardiography, combining single-crystal element technology with matrix architecture. XDclear materials deliver wider bandwidth and higher sensitivity than standard piezoelectric elements, producing clearer endocardial borders and stronger Doppler signals. The matrix design enables electronic elevation focusing for reduced slice thickness and fewer near-field artifacts. A 120-degree sector angle covers standard and off-axis echo views used for strain and contrast protocols.
Specifications
XDclear wideband elements deliver higher sensitivity than standard piezoelectric probes at equivalent frequencies.
Wide sector angle captures all standard and off-axis echo views including strain and contrast imaging.
Deep penetration supports imaging of posterior cardiac structures and abdominal applications.
Single-crystal elements with matrix architecture for electronic elevation focusing and reduced near-field clutter.
Full Doppler suite with CW mode supports valvular gradient, regurgitation, and shunt assessment.
D-pin interface connects to GE Vivid E95, LOGIQ E10, Fortis, Totus, and Vivid S70.
Applications
Adult Echocardiography
The M5Sc-D's XDclear matrix array produces the image quality that drives the Vivid E95's reputation in cardiac imaging. Wide bandwidth supports harmonic imaging for endocardial border definition, while matrix elevation focusing reduces clutter in apical views. Auto EF, Auto Strain (AFI), and related quantification workflows depend on the M5Sc-D's signal fidelity.
Stress and Contrast Echocardiography
Low-MI contrast-specific modes on the Vivid E95 and LOGIQ Fortis use the M5Sc-D's wide bandwidth for contrast agent detection and LVO imaging. Stress echo protocols benefit from the matrix array's consistent image quality across heart rate ranges, with rapid switching between rest and stress acquisition stages.
Pediatric and Fetal Cardiac Imaging
Higher frequency operation within the 1.0–5.0 MHz band resolves smaller cardiac structures in pediatric patients. Fetal heart imaging on compatible Vivid systems uses the M5Sc-D for four-chamber views and outflow tract assessment when intercostal access permits phased array positioning.
