GE Vivid Advanced

Vivid Advanced is one of three cardiovascular ultrasound systems GE HealthCare announced on August 28, 2026, alongside Vivid Explorer and Vivid Focus. GE designed it for busy mid-size hospitals and cardiology practices that need 2D TTE, multi-plane TEE and 2D ICE plus vascular, abdominal and soft-tissue imaging. It shares its core architecture with Vivid Pioneer, GE's most powerful Vivid platform.

On the cardiac side, GE lists 2D transthoracic echo (TTE), multi-plane transesophageal echo (TEE) and 2D intracardiac echo (ICE). Beyond the heart, the system covers vascular, abdominal and soft-tissue imaging, and it also supports pediatric imaging for small patients. Example exams include carotid color flow, abdominal 2D, thyroid and a pediatric apical four-chamber view.

No. Vivid Advanced is a 2D and multi-plane system. None of the 4D tools are available on it, including 4D Auto MVQ, 4D Auto TVQ, 4D LHQ, FlexiLight, HDlive and 4D ICE with NUVISION. If your lab needs 4D TTE, 4D TEE or 4D ICE, the Vivid Explorer is the next step up in the same family and offers all three.

Vivid Advanced supports seven named probes: the M5Sc-D XDclear phased array for cardiac imaging, the 6Sc-D phased array in a pediatric cardiac view, the 6VT-D and 9VT-D TEE probes, the 9L-D and 11L-D linear probes, and the C1-6-D XDclear curved array. GE has not published a complete compatibility list, so confirm any other probe by model number before ordering.

Vivid Advanced performs multi-plane TEE. The 6VT-D supports biplane views of the left atrial appendage and a unicuspid aortic valve, and the smaller 9VT-D mini TEE probe in a biplane left atrial appendage view. Both probes acquire 4D volumes on Vivid Explorer, but on Vivid Advanced they are used for biplane and multi-plane imaging, not 4D TEE.

Yes, as options. Vivid Advanced offers a 2D ICE interface for compatible intracardiac echo catheters and a CARTOSOUND interface with remote UI, which links ICE imaging to the CARTO 3 mapping system and lets the team control the ultrasound system from CARTO 3. The ICE catheters and CARTO system are third-party products supplied separately. 4D ICE with NUVISION is available on Vivid Explorer only.

The new Vivid systems include four AI and automation tools: AI Auto Measure 2D, Easy AutoEF, Easy AFI LV and AI Cardiac Auto Doppler. They automate routine 2D measurements, ejection fraction, LV strain and Doppler measurements to cut manual steps. All four are options on Vivid Advanced, as are AFI LA, AFI RV, Myocardial Work and the LV Diastolic Function Tool.

cSound is GE's software-based imaging architecture, shared across the Vivid family and designed to optimize contrast, resolution and tissue visualization. On Vivid Advanced, cSound works with the M5Sc-D XDclear Single Crystal probe, a combination designed for deep penetration, excellent contrast and sharp spatial resolution for clear cardiac visualization.

Yes, with the optional battery. In GE's internal testing, a fully charged system scanning with the M5Sc-D probe ran for up to 60 minutes in Battery Scan Mode. Battery with Transport Mode is also available, and Power Saving Mode helps reduce energy use while maintaining performance. Runtime with other probes has not been published.

The three systems are built for different care settings. Vivid Explorer targets high-volume echo labs and routine interventional work, and adds 4D imaging, 4D quantification and 4D ICE. Vivid Advanced covers 2D TTE, multi-plane TEE and 2D ICE for mid-size hospitals and cardiology practices. Vivid Focus is built for everyday cardiac imaging with the new 4Sc-RS probe and has no ICE, CARTOSOUND or Myocardial Work options.

Yes. The FDA cleared Vivid Explorer, Vivid Advanced and Vivid Focus together under 510(k) K261313, with a substantially equivalent decision on September 2, 2026. The systems also carry the CE Mark. The single clearance lists the device name "Vivid Explorer/Vivid Advanced/Vivid Focus", covering all three systems.

GE released EchoPAC Software Only v211 with the new systems and says it brings the same new capabilities found on Vivid Explorer, Vivid Advanced and Vivid Focus. Clinicians can review, analyze and quantify studies on site or remotely with the same tools used at the system. On the system itself, an Ultrasound DICOM Viewer is standard and Remote Viewing is an option.

Yes. LVO & LVO Stress are standard, for left ventricular opacification with contrast at rest and during stress, and Smart Stress is an option for stress echo exams. Tissue Synchronization Imaging (TSI) is also standard. AFI Stress is not available on Vivid Advanced; among the new systems, only Vivid Explorer offers it.

Radiantflow and Clarity+ for non-cardiac imaging are standard, along with B-Flow, IMT, LOGIQ View, Qscan and Pre-Post Compare. Radiantflow adds a 3D-like look to small-vessel color flow, and Clarity+ improves tissue differentiation and border definition while reducing noise. The 9L-D, 11L-D and C1-6-D probes cover this work.

Vivid Advanced offers TSP Height as an option. The tool, first introduced on Vivid Pioneer, helps identify the ideal transseptal puncture location, a key planning step for transcatheter mitral procedures. The 4D structural tools, including the LAA Sizing and LAA Compression tools and 4D Auto MVQ, are available only on Vivid Explorer among the new systems.
